Theater Program

Theater Program

Seasons

Our theater program runs a musical theater track and a stage play track that provide training in the fundamentals of acting, choreography, voice, stage performance, stage design, costume design, music composition for shows, and more. The spring season runs from January – May, and the fall season runs from August – November. Because our stage play track is new this fall, we will adjust our plan as needed throughout the year in order to adapt to the needs of our students and families.

Shows

Each student in the program participates in the end-of-season show. Musical theater productions are performed at The Younts Center for Performing Arts in Fountain, Inn. Theater productions are performed at the World Upside Down Arts Studio in a black box theater style.

Auditions

Students must audition to participate in the show, and everyone who is in our theater program will be cast for a main role, a minor role, or ensemble role. Auditions will be finalized before rehearsals start.

Duration and Schedule

Each training session lasts 3 hours a week for a total of 12 training hours a month and 3 hours a night the week of the performance before the first show. Typically we do not continue weekly rehearsals for the week of the second weekend of the show if there are two show weekends.

Synopsis

Beauty and the Beast Jr.

Step into the enchanted world of Broadway’s classic, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, an international sensation that has been produced in 37 countries worldwide. Based on the Academy Award-winning animated feature, the stage version includes all of the wonderful songs written by Alan Menken and the late Howard Ashman, along with new songs by Mr. Menken and Tim Rice. The original Broadway production ran for over thirteen years and was nominated for nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

The classic story tells of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end and he will be transformed into his former self. But time is running out. If the Beast does not learn his lesson soon, he and his household will be doomed for all eternity. This “tale as old as time” is filled with spectacular costume and set opportunities or, even more simply staged, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast offers a great opportunity to bring your entire community together for family theatre at its best.

Performances on at the Younts Center for Performing Arts in Fountain Inn, SC, on November 10-11 and 17-18, 2023.

Synopsis

Oliver Twist

Play by Robert Thomas Noll. Adapted from the book by Charles Dickens.
In 1838 the English literary magazine Bentley’s Miscellany, of which Charles Dickens was the editor, published Oliver Twist. This novel not only captured the attention of nineteenth-century Britain, but also heavily influenced the modern conception of the British Poor Laws and the workhouse system in the Victorian era. Oliver Twist has been made into a number of films and a television miniseries, as well as being converted into a musical stage show by Lionel Bart in 1960.
This faithful adaptation of Charles Dickens’ second novel is an exciting, fast-moving melodrama about the adventures of an orphan redeemed from a life of cruel poverty and crime by an act of unselfish courage. Filled with an atmosphere of mystery, its major characters—Fagin, Bill Sikes, Mr. Bumble, Nancy, and the Artful Dodger—are some of the most theatrically realized characters in all of literature.
Performances are TBD and will be determined once the cast is formed, at World Upside Down Arts Studio.
Oliver Twist the stage play will be performed this fall at World Upside Down Arts Studio. Middle school and high school students and adults can audition in August!
Theater Classes

Theater Director Caleb Woo will be teaching a few theater classes from August through October of our fall season to support our stage play Oliver Twist which will show at World Upside Down Arts Studio this fall. See our Policies and Pricing page for scholarship information.
